As with many things in life, when it comes to make-up it is best to start with a good foundation. Foundation should feel and look natural and that is why it is imperative to choose the right one for your skin tone and type.

For some the word ‘foundation’ has negative connotations and this is because choosing and using the wrong foundation can leave you looking cakey or slightly orange (in 2021, looking orange has the worst association). A quality foundation should not look obvious on your skin. It should blend in with your natural colour and improve the look of your skin.

What does ‘coverage’ mean?

People have different needs and that is why there is a variety of foundation types available to suit a wide variety of skin types and requirements. The innovative factor of the Dermablend range of coverage foundations is that the formulas are designed to be buildable, so you can apply as many layers as needed for your requirement. ‘Coverage’ is a term used to refer to a foundation’s ability to conceal imperfections. There are four types of foundation coverage: sheer, light, medium, and full coverage.

Dermablend Coverage Foundations

Which foundation should I use?

Dermablend 3D correction is long-hold and high-coverage fluid that is enriched with salicylic acid to avoid congestion. It is suitable for skin with acne, excessive oil, blemishes, dark circles, rosacea, vitiligo. Thanks to a higher concentration of pigment, its buildable coverage, and light fluid texture provides a flawless finish with a comfortable feel without clogging pores.

Dermablend fluid can be used on normal to dry skin, on mature skin, and on sensitive skin of any age. Dark circles or other problem areas can still be tackled with the Dermablend Corrective Concealer, as this will provide moisture and reduce the appearance of fine lines too. As with other Dermablend products, the fluid offers a long-hold coverage that can be built in layers depending on the amount of coverage needed.

Choosing what to conceal

Dermablend fluid may also be used to conceal tattoos, birthmarks, and scars if one wishes. The area should be cleaned and primed. Once the appropriate shade of Dermablend fluid is chosen a beginning layer should be applied on the whole area. A Dermablend concealer should be used next to improve the coverage on the area where the tattoo, birthmark, or scar still shows. If more coverage is needed (such as when appearing on camera) then the concealer can be layered in small amounts at a time. When coverage has been achieved this can be locked in, to ensure that it will last for several hours and have a waterproof finish, by using Dermablend’s Loose Setting Powder.

To choose the right foundation colour, there are two criteria to consider: your skin tone and type. When it comes to skin tone you need to be aware of your skin’s undertone too. This is the underlying natural colour of your skin that makes your complexion warm (tans to golden or caramel), cool (goes pink) or neutral (a mixture of the two). Knowing your skin’s tone and undertone can help you choose the right foundation for your skin and avoid a contrast at the line where your foundation ends.

Why should I use a foundation?

Most people use foundation to even out the skin colour and hide imperfections, but there are other reasons to use it. It is a great base for applying other makeup and helping this last longer during the day. Foundation acts as a barrier against environmental toxins and pollution. Pores appear smaller and redness is toned down. Foundation also increases the radiance of the skin, making it appear more youthful.  As part of your skincare routine, a quality foundation can also deliver active ingredients to your skin (such as moisturiser or anti-ageing ingredients) and protect your skin from the sun with sun protection factor (SPF).

The Dermablend range of foundations and concealers meet your coverage needs while providing your skin with nourishment that never clogs your pores. These foundations all contain SPF – they really have you covered!
