How to Prepare Your Skin for the Winter Months

The winter months can be tough on your skin. Cold weather, dry air, and windy conditions can leave your skin feeling dry, tight, irritated, and perhaps not looking too good. But don’t despair! You can do a few simple things to help your skin handle better the winter months. You may need to change your skincare routine to adjust it to these different requirements… it’s not just about wearing warmer clothes.

Here are some tips.

1) Clean up with the right Cleanser

Most people know it’s important to wash their face every day, but only some know it’s just as important to use the right cleanser for their skin type and the season. When skin is prone to dryness in the winter, it’s important to use a creamy cleanser to hydrate the skin. At this crucial step, we want to avoid damaging the skin barrier. And for sensitive skin, it’s always best to avoid harsh chemicals and opt for a gentle, natural cleanser.

To build a winter-proof skincare routine, as with most things, you need a solid foundation. I’m referring to your cleanser, of course!

Start on the right note by picking a cleanser that will be gentle on your skin but get the job done right. CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser and CeraVe Hydrating Cream to Foam Cleanser for normal to dry skin remove dirt and oil, while increasing hydration after the first use.

Moreover, these cleansers help restore the skin barrier by delivering three essential ceramides so that your skin is hydrated, healthy, and ready for your moisturiser. CeraVe Hydrating Cleansers are fragrance and soap-free and can also be used on the body.

2)  Moisturise, Moisturise, Moisturise!

One of the best ways to combat dry winter skin is to moisturise daily. Look for a moisturiser that will help to form a barrier on your skin that will lock in moisture, such as CeraVe Moisturizing Cream.

This cream is packed with three essential ceramides that help to nourish and hydrate your skin, restoring its natural moisture balance. Ceramides also help repair the damage caused by unavoidable everyday stresses such as pollution, rebuilding and restoring the skin barrier.

In addition, the ingenious MVE technology in this product ensures an effective delivery of nutrients right where the skin needs it most and a slow release over time, so the cream continues to work long after you’ve applied it. CeraVe Moisturizing Cream is fragrance-free and suitable for those with dry and even very dry skin. If you prefer a lighter texture, choose CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion instead.

Also, apply your moisturiser while your skin is still damp from cleansing; this will help it absorb more easily. And last but not least, don’t forget to moisturize your neck and chest—often neglected areas that can benefit from extra TLC.

4) Exfoliate Gently but Regularly

This helps to remove dead skin cells that can build up and make your complexion look dull. Look for an exfoliator that is gentle enough you don’t want to strip away all of your natural oils! —You’ll be amazed at the difference it makes in the overall appearance of your skin.

Remember that exfoliation will help the skin of all ages look more youthful and radiant, getting rid of patchiness that has a habit of appearing in the winter months. Try CeraVe SA Smoothing Cleanser, which exfoliates gently without harming the skin barrier.

5) Stay Hydrated from the Inside Out

Finally, one of the most important things you can do for your skin—regardless of the season—is to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water daily. During the winter, increasing your water intake is even more essential as the dry air (and heating) can dehydrate you more quickly than usual. Aim for eight glasses per day, and you’ll see a noticeable difference in both the appearance and feel of your skin.

By following these simple tips, you can help your skin survive—and even thrive—during the chilly winter months ahead! Just remember to moisturize regularly, protect yourself from the elements, and stay hydrated from the inside out. Your skin will thank you for it!
