What is Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is a molecule that is found naturally in the body: in the skin, in the eyes, and in connective tissue like joints. Its main function is to keep the skin, eyes, and joints well cushioned and lubricated. Since it is already present in the body, the use of hyaluronic acid as applied on the skin is usually safe and well-tolerated. Hyaluronic acid can also be taken by mouth, used in eye drops, and even injected into the skin and joints.

Although hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the skin certain factors start to decrease its amounts. The natural ageing process and hormonal changes, exposure to UV rays from the sun without sun protection, smoking, and pollution are some of these culprits. Dehydrated skin increases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and these everyday stressors cause continuous ‘injury’ that also make the skin look dull. Hyaluronic acid is found in different products that can help us hydrate, repair, add radiance and plumpness, and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. A molecule of hyaluronic acid can attract and retain molecules of water 1000 times its own weight, thus hydrating and replenishing different layers of the skin. But that is not all; hyaluronic acid also influences and participates in cell function, thus helping with repair of damaged skin.

Which product should I use?

To maintain supple skin, replace the loss of hyaluronic acid, and repair some of the damage it has experienced, we need to nourish the skin via the deeper layers as well as the top layers. The Hyalu B5 serum and hydrating cream provide high molecular weight hyaluronic acid which rehydrate and plump up the skin both at the surface and in the deeper layers. Vitamin B5 repairs the skin’s barrier to help retain moisture and hydration, so that going forward the skin is protected from drying out and appearing dull or wrinkled. Hyalu B5 serum also contains madecassoside that helps stimulate collagen synthesis, thus improving skin firmness and elasticity.

Mineral 89 liquid repairs and strengthens the skin barrier with its minimalist formula that penetrates deep into the skin and acts as a daily booster to be used before your moisturiser or serum. Think of Mineral 89 liquid as a multivitamin supplement that you take along with your healthy diet.

In the case of more mature skin, Liftactiv Epidermic Filler HA is a more appropriate choice, as it tackles wrinkles and loss of plumpness with its daily correction by replacing the hyaluronic acid that is lost from the skin. There is an instant re-plumping action, and a progressive reduction in fine lines and wrinkles with daily use.

Is Hyaluronic Acid suitable for all kinds of skin?

In general, hyaluronic acid is well tolerated and safe for all skin types. It is especially helpful in those with dry skin. However, if you suffer from rosacea, eczema or any other skin condition, it is a good idea to test your chosen hyaluronic acid product on a small patch of skin to make sure that the skin does not get irritated. If there is no irritation after 24 hours, then it is safe to use the product containing hyaluronic acid. With hyaluronic acid skin is regenerated in a natural way, for a youthful look without the use of artificial means. The result is natural, radiant, smooth skin that is hydrated from within.
