New CeraVe Range of Skin Products

The no.1 US dermatologist-recommended brand has now landed in Malta! This range fills a lacuna of therapeutic skincare, which is suitable for all ages, skin types, and genders… and is available at affordable prices.

The name CeraVe is derived from Ceramides and the multi-vesicular emulsion (MVE) controlled-release system the products employ. MVE is composed of multi-layer concentric spheres of oil and water suspended in a watery medium.

Thanks to their 3 essential ceramides, CeraVe products help to restore the skin’s natural outer barrier.

What are ceramides?

Ceramides make up 50% of the skin’s outer layer, the stratum corneum, the barrier which protects us from outside elements. They are a form of lipid (oil) found naturally, and they are essential for keeping the skin hydrated. When ceramides are compromised, the skin can become irritated, dry, and even itchy.

Dry skin is a common skin condition that affects 30-75% of adults and 20% of children.

When ceramide levels in the skin are decreased and the barrier against the outside world is made weak, moisture escapes from the skin faster. Over the years, experts have observed that many skin conditions such as acne, eczema, and dry skin have one thing in common: a weakened skin barrier.

The way to combat this decline of ceramides is to replace them by using products that contain skin-identical components.

Ceramides

Is it suitable for my skin type or condition?

These outermost layers of the skin provide mammals with a defensive barrier against harmful environmental factors as well as against water loss.

Ceramides are actually synthesised in the epidermis, and so it stands to reason that providing skin-identical ceramides within a product will restore this layer to its natural state.

Studies have shown that the application of CeraVe products imparted sustained moisturization that lasted for more than a day. This decreases the burden of more frequent application that other products may carry. Their simple formulas make them suitable to different types of sensitive skins.

What makes CeraVe different?

The CeraVe range is the first brand to deliver 3 essential ceramides that your skin needs in a unique method called the MVE slow-release system. This strengthens the skin barrier and retains moisture over the day. The effect is immediate and then also released in a controlled manner in the next hours, and as time goes by, the epidermis becomes more healthy and more able to maintain its normal function.

CeraVe employs a stripped-back approach to skincare by keeping the ingredients simple. The products are fragrance-free and non-irritating. This means that they will be safe to use for most skin types. In addition to the 3 ceramides, CeraVe products contain:

  • Hyaluronic acid & Glycerin that attract and hold water in the outer layers of the skin up to 1000x their weight.
  • Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) soothes the skin for a comfortable feel.

The simplicity of the ingredients helps to keep the texture smooth. The creams feel luxurious while being quickly absorbed, which encourages regular application.
