What is Dry Eyes?

The clinical picture of dry eyes is a wetting disorder. This means that the surface of the eye is no longer sufficiently lubricated with tear fluid and protected from dehydration. The doctor then speaks of sicca syndrome. Behind this is either a deficiency or a disturbed composition of the tear film. In both cases, the tear film breaks down prematurely, leaving behind a dry eye surface that becomes vulnerable to irritation or inflammation.

CAUSES OF DRY EYES

WHAT TO DO ABOUT DRY EYES?

Reduce screen time

In front of the screen, the blink rate decreases considerably. Therefore, make sure to take regular breaks or even better: reduce screen time as much as possible.

Moisturizing eye drops

Eye drops moisturize your eyes and also have a preventive effect against dry eyes.

20-20-20 Rule

Take the strain off your eyes by focusing on an object 20 feet away (about 6 meters) for 20 seconds every 20 minutes.

Don't forget to blink

Make a conscious decision to blink more often. It's best to start by reading this website – for example, after every third word.

Relaxation

Our eyes also need a break from time to time. Do something good for your eyes every now and then and close them for a few seconds.
